Jack Henry & Associates is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Analyst (Underwriter) to join the Enterprise Payment Solutions team. In this role, you will be responsible for the boarding of new merchant accounts by completing an accurate and thorough review of the application details, due diligence, KYC information, financials statements, banking information, and any other research necessary to verify the business, credit information, and owner/officers to make an approve/decline recommendation along with suggested processing limits (i.e. velocity limits). You will also be responsible for processing partner and merchant account maintenance requests.  This position requires you to work closely with the Sales and Installation departments to develop and implement process improvements and to communicate special processing requests.  You will be expected to interact with complex merchant clients, independent sales organizations (ISOs), value-added resellers (VARs), and financial institutions.

This is a high stress, high-volume workload, where efficiency, drive, and someone who can multi-task is the ideal candidate.  To succeed in this role, you must be willing to dig into and research complex issues, be highly motivated, make minimal errors, and be able to take criticism and turn them into positive outcomes.  This a very stable and great tenure team looking for the right candidate to fill this unique role.

This position will be hired in Allen, TX.   


  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in credit risk underwriting, merchant underwriting OR commercial credit/lending analysis within a financial institution or payment services industry. 

  • Must be flexible and willing to work outside of standard business hours as business needs dictate.  

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office, and Web Searches.

  • Bachelor's Degree


  • Masters Degree in Finance, Accounting, or AAP, CFE or CAMS Certification.

  • Strong knowledge of BSA, AML, KYC, and OFAC.

  • Familiar with Experian Business Reports and/or LexisNexis.

  • Able to process complex information; analyze data for suspicious or fraudulent indicators; apply intuition and use strong decision-making skills.

  • Proven experience in merchant credit underwriting.

  • Proven history as a self-starter who can add value by driving process-related decisions while working independently. 

  • Focus on accomplishing work assigned within a specified time frame (meet or exceed Service Level Agreements (SLA)) and be able to achieve and manage critical milestones and deadlines.


  • Processes merchant services applications; verifies business and credit information and recommends transaction velocity limits.

  • Complies with KYC, OFAC, and BSA/AML rules and regulations.

  • Monitors and communicates risk concerns to management.

  • Interacts with regular and complex merchant clients, ISOs, VARs, Referral Banks, and the ODFI (Originating Depository Financial Institution) to carry out these responsibilities.

  • Maintains client database to facilitate process flow, reporting and analysis.

  • Trains Credit Risk Analysts on risk management systems, processes, policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance.

  • Assists with determining needed risk management system enhancements and serves as a resource for determining and validating proposed system enhancements. 

  • Monitors portfolio of existing merchant accounts for transaction risk, decline in financial condition and other derogatory indicators.  Communicates concerns to management.

  • Reviews and approves changes to merchant accounts, including but not limited to ownership changes, new bank accounts, locations, and modifying transaction velocity settings based on customer’s business needs and risk mitigation. 

  • May be required to interact with internal and external auditing groups to ensure risk and regulatory compliance.

  • Reviews exception items and takes action to approve or decline suspended transactions.

  • Clear understanding of the Credit Policy and merchant underwriting procedures.

  • Must be able to gather and review due diligence information and make recommendations.

  • Perform thorough due diligence to reduce the potential loss due to fraud and credit worthiness.

  • Initiate and/or participate in department improvements and changes as directed by Management.

  • Teamwork – able to balance team and individual responsibilities. Must contribute to fostering a positive team environment; put success of team above self-interests; welcomes feedback.

  • Tracks all correspondence and communications to ensure an accurate and detailed audit trail.
